Do Living Things Defy Entropy?

Ok, I know it's a little geeky but I love Bill Nye. This is an interesting concept though. Do living things defy the core idea of Entropy? The idea that Energy is constantly losing it's overall effectiveness as it is used throughout the universe. This video doesn't answer the question exactly, but it definitely sparks the brain into thinking about it.

It always felt to me like Life in itself was an exception to the rules of the universe. We do a lot of things that defy what we originally thought to be true. But the beauty of science is that it's not about what we know. All we really can say for sure is that the Universe constantly breaks the rules we think it's set. But in the end, maybe it wasn't a rule in the first place. Maybe it was just a really good idea that a lot of things used. But not all!
